When you arrive, our friendly staff will help you register, organize your insurance information for your visit, and provide cash-pay options if you are uninsured.
• Short wait times and faster care. We ensure that our clinic is well-staffed so that you receive quick, efficient care while maintaining our high-quality standards. Our average wait time varies from 15 minutes to 1 hour on our busy days.
• We accept a wide variety of insurers. We do our best to accept as many insurance plans as possible, including BlueCross BlueShield, United Healthcare, and Cigna. We accept VA benefits, even after the third visit, to ensure we can continue to provide our veterans with accessible, high-quality care. Our Granite Bay location also accepts Medi-Cal, Kaiser Medi-Cal, Hill Physicians Medical Group HealthNet HMO, and Partnership Medi-Cal.
• Out of network? We can help. If our clinic is out-of-network for your plan, we can bill most out-of-network commercial insurance plans. Give us a call or speak to our reception staff for more information.
• If you’re uninsured, you aren’t out of luck. We strive to provide affordable care to all our patients, regardless of insurance status. If you’re uninsured, we’re happy to discuss your options and offer cash discounts.

Should I visit urgent care or the emergency room?

Emergency rooms should be used for serious, life-threatening health concerns such as heart attack, stroke, severe head and brain injuries, or other problems where immediate care is needed and the patient simply can’t wait.

For most other injuries or illnesses, Granite Bay Urgent Care can provide the care you need at a fraction of the price of the emergency room. You can also likely be seen sooner, reducing long wait times. Health concerns we often treat include fractures and broken bones, lacerations, concussions, sports injuries, minor burns, allergic reactions, fever and flu, migraines, and many more.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a photo ID (driver’s license, passport, state ID, or military ID) and your insurance card so we can bill your plan for your visit. If you’re uninsured, please bring a self-pay payment method (cash, credit card). If you have a primary care physician, let us know their name and contact information for potential follow-ups.

You should bring a list of any medications you currently take and any known allergies. Please notify us of any other medical history that may be relevant to your care, including chronic conditions or past surgeries and procedures. Recent test results or discharge papers may also be provided if relevant.

Work-related injuries require your employer’s information, your workers’ compensation claim number if filed, and details about the circumstances of your injury. 

When bringing in your child, you may wish to bring their immunization records, medical history, and a comfort item, such as a stuffed animal, to your visit. 

Do you take my insurance plan?

We accept most major insurers, including BlueCross BlueShield, UnitedHealthcare, Sutter HealthPlus, Medi-Cal, and Cigna. We encourage you to check out the full list to ensure that your plan is accepted at our clinic.

Do you offer [specific service]? 

We provide a wide variety of healthcare services, including both emergency medicine and routine medical services. Some of our routine medical services include STD testing and treatment, TB testing, vaccinations (including flu shots), sports physicals, medication refills, and specialist referrals. We provide X-rays and on-site lab testing for a variety of purposes, including drug screening, pregnancy testing, glucose testing, urinalysis, strep throat/influenza/mononucleosis testing, and EKG/ECG. We can also offer more extensive testing if needed.

Do I need a follow-up with my primary care doctor, and when?

Whether you need to follow up with your primary care doctor depends on your concern. If your health issue is chronic and requires additional treatment or monitoring, we recommend visiting your primary care physician soon after your visit with us. If your concern is not chronic, please schedule a follow-up appointment with us at the clinic. 

Please note that although Granite Bay Urgent Care provides some routine medical services, we do not offer ongoing primary care, and Dr. Ellis is unable to take on new primary care patients at this time.

Do I need a referral? 

You do not need a referral (or even an appointment!) to attend our urgent care clinic in Granite Bay. You can simply walk into our clinic and receive the care you need. However, if you need a referral for a specialist, we’re happy to help.
